Kindergarten Graduation

Kennedy's Kindergarten graduation was held last Friday. All the classes got together and put on a cute little program which included singing and a slide show of pictures taken throughout the year. I have to admit that I cried during the slide show, because it suddenly hit me that my baby is no longer a baby. She has learned to read and write, and soon will be off to full days of school. I think that her transition to first grade will be more emotional for me than her starting Kindergarten. Kennedy said she did not want to leave Kindergarten, because she really likes her teacher, Mrs. Tanner. I have to agree that Mrs. Tanner is one of the best teachers I have encountered. Kennedy felt better when she found out her three good friends(pictured below) will be in the same first grade class as her. I am so proud of Kennedy, because she did so well her first year of school.

I love this photo of Kennedy and her friend Cashlyn waiting at the bus stop. The little girl, Anya, lives next door and loves to follow Kennedy around. It is images like this that I hope my memory will retain forever. This time in Kennedy's life will pass in the blink of an eye.

Down and Derby

Every year the Boy Scouts participate in the Annual Pinewood Derby. For any of you involved in Scouts, you know this is a BIG deal. Each Scout is given a block of wood to design their own car. The car can be made in any shape, but it has to adhere to the weight guidelines. This year Christopher decided to make a classic race car. People joke that the Pinewood Derby is actually a competition for Dads to boost their ego by designing the fastest and best car for their kid. I am proud to say this was not the case with Steve and Christopher. Although Steve was very hands on with the project, Christopher thought of the design and did a great job carving and using the sander. I personally think it turned out great, but I suppose my opinion is a little biased. Christopher loved the evening and was so excited when his car made it to the finals.

Back to Life.....Back to Reality

Yes, I realize it has been thirty days since my last blog entry, but my excuse is valid. Sometimes Heavenly Father throws you a curve ball, and instead of questioning "why?" you just ride out the storm and wait for the sunshine. A few days after getting my cast off from the car accident, I contracted Strep Throat. For most people this is not a big deal, they just take antibiotics and get on with their life. For me and my immune system, Strep is a different story. It causes havoc on my body and always develops into something worse. This time it made it's way to my lungs and I then got Bronchitis and Pneumonia. To make a long story short, I have been bed bound for a week and a half and unable to function. Thank goodness for a husband who stepped in and took over the responsibilities of everyday life. Thursday was the first day I was able to get up and accomplish a few things. I have never been so happy to do laundry and dishes. Although I would never, ever want to go through this experience again, there were a few bright spots in the clouds. First, I am grateful for the neighbors and friends who took their time to prepare meals for our family, and my husband who maintained a positive attitude and stepped up to the plate. Second, I was able to read A LOT of books, which has helped me move forward on one of my Top Twenty goals. And last, but not least, I lost eight pounds. Does that count towards # 13 on my Top Twenty list? :)
