Horse Lessons

Ever since Kennedy was young, she has been fascinated with horses. We live in an area where numerous people own horses, and they are part of our everyday, small-town scenery. We often stop to pet and feed the horses, but this has never been sufficient for Kennedy, who has had an innate desire to actually ride one. A few months ago, we found out that one of the young girls in our neighborhood has been taking riding lessons at a nearby ranch. We met with the owner of the ranch and were impressed by her dedication and longing to help children connect with the horses. Steve and I decided to let Kennedy take riding lessons a few times a month in order to determine if it was something that she would really relate to. I have never seen Kennedy so focused and determined. She has been learning to care for the horses, saddle up, lead, steer and give directions. The teacher has been impressed with how quickly she has been absorbing information. Kennedy will train with a horse and then very politely ask the teacher if she can make the horse go fast. I think we may be raising a little dare-devil. Steve believes she will end up being a barrel racer.....oh my!!

Silver Lake

A few weeks ago, we decided to explore a new lake. We literally drove to the top of the mountains, up a very scary dirt road, to find Silver Lake. We spent the evening fishing and playing around in the water. The trout were jumping, but unfortunately we did not catch any for the campfire that night. It was a beautiful and relaxing day.

A New School Year

On August 19, the new school year began. It seems like every year the summer gets shorter, and the school year begins earlier. Remember the good ol' days when we didn't have to think about summer ending until after Labor Day? This year Christopher started fifth grade, and Kennedy made the leap into first grade. Kennedy had a rough transition the first week trying to make it through a full day of school, but her body has finally adjusted and she is enjoying it. Both of the kids love their teachers, which is a blessing in itself. Christopher is excited because he has been chosen to be a bus monitor this year. He went through a little training course on what to do in case of an emergency, including applying the brakes and turning off the ignition. He feels very grown up and responsible. I was a little hesitant for the new year to begin, but I have to admit that getting back into a routine has proven to be quite nice.
