Kennedy had a bummer start to summer break. Last Sunday, she woke up at 7am and started throwing up. Normally we would not be concerned, but her throw-up contained blood and she was complaining of a stiff neck and sore back. My immediate concern was Menengitis or some underlying cause other than a virus, because she has never had these type of symptoms before. We took her to the doctor that night, and he also appeared somewhat puzzled. He was concerned enough to admit her to the hospital to run tests and get her hydrated. Kennedy was scared at first and begged not to go. She calmed down after she knew I was able to spend the night there with her.
The nurses on the UVMRC Pediatric Unit were wonderful. We could not have asked for better care. They did such a great job of talking Kennedy through the process of inserting the IV and drawing blood for the tests. Kennedy was so brave and did not cry at all. By the end of the hospital stay, she did not want to leave. She really enjoyed the constant attention of the nurses, and being showered by gifts from the Pediatric Unit. I am glad to say that the tests were normal and Kennedy recovered well after receiving numerous IV's, and medication to stop the vomiting. The doctor feels it was a combination of a terrible virus and dehydration. Kennedy has her spunk and energy back, and has returned to enjoying summer break.

I swear she is your sickly child huh. Poor thing glad to hear she is feeling better.
Hmmmm- Swine flu?
it is a strange site to see your child in a hospital bed with IV's and needles sticking in their skin.
Arent we lucky though to have healthy children. I cannot imagine what some parents go through who have severly ill children. All the Shriners hospital commercial make me cry.
Glad she is doing better. She is a doll and looks more like you all of the time.
